This chapter summarises some features that I would like to emphasize. They are useful or cool, or both :-)
Sound Request list for easy MP3 download
If you visit MP3 channels you can turn on the MP3 Request list in the sound request preferences. This list will examine the incoming text in the MP3 channels and collect the available songs in a sorted list. You can then request the songs with a click on a button.
Multiple users can have their individual Snak Preferences
If you use the Make New Preference File command in the File menu you can save a copy of the current preferences to a file for another person to use. In order to start Snak up with a particular set of preferences, double click on the new preference file. If you start the program up normally by launching the program alone, it will use the default preferences in the system folder.
Drop sound files into windows to send them
You can send a sound to a channel by dropping the .wav file on the channel's window. If you use a lot of sounds try keeping a pop-up window of your "sounds" folder on the desktop for quick access.
Dock multiple interfaces in the same window
You can group channels, queries and dcc chats from one connection together in a window for easy arranging. Each interface can be moved around or moved into its own window.
Multiple servers in the connection records
This feature makes it much easier for you to get on a network. The best way to use it is to have a connection record for each of your favorite networks instead of a separate connection record per server.
After all, the network is the goal and servers are just a way to get there. Why focus on the server instead of the network ?
Resizeable input field and user list
These areas can be resized by clicking in the divider area and dragging.
The Address Book
You can drag nick names from the user list to the Address Book window. Then use the fields to store information about that particular nick.
Scripting
Understanding scripting will give you a great set of new abilities and ways to use Snak. A script is a mini-program with variables and functions. An alias is one example of a script, an entry in the Tools menu is another. An alias complements the built in commands and is used on equal terms. Snak comes with the powerful PurePak script package that you can load by typing "/load purepak.irc", but you can also easily create your own scripts by editing the script files. Please see the chapter "Using Scripting" for more information.
Contextual menus
Snak supports contextual menus in the console, channel and query window, as well as the userlist and notify list. Contextual menus are shown by control clicking in the window or userlist (hold down control while clicking). This brings up a menu with useful commands.
The Tools menu
The Tools menu in the menu bar gives easy access to scripts or text snippets.
The Tools menu is intended to work on selections in the user list, so you need to make a selection before using a menu item like version and whois .
The Function keys
You can assign a script to be executed to each function key, by going to one of the script files that is read in when a connection is opened and adding an entry for /F1 to /F12. Please see the chapter "ircII Scripting" for more information. The script file basical have examples of how to attach a script to a function key.
Different background color and font in each window
The background color and font of each channel, query and console window can be changed from the default in the settings windows. This will let you easily tell the different channels apart.
In the color preference panel you can select different color themes, like green on black terminal style or gentle pastels.
Find and Find Again
You can search in the channel list and channel text using cmd-F and cmd-G
Drag and Drop
Snak supports drag and drop in many situations, including adding users to the notify list, and deleting them again.
You can also send files in DCC chat and query windows by dragging them in from the finder.
Guardian
If you are a teacher or a parent you may want to control the channels that your students or kids can use. Snak can block channels based on title, as well as the words that are spoken in the channel.
Double click in user list
You can configure what happens when you double click in the user list and notify list, by going to the Click preference panel.
Cmd-clicking URLs
The program supports cmd-clicking of URLs in the text fields. If you position the cursor in an URL and double click wile holding down the command key, the program will attempt to open the URL. This works best if you have Internet Config installed and configured.
